Descendants of William Strimple Salem County, New Jersey

The first record of Strimple (Stremple) in America is the arrival of Johann Wilhelm Stremple at Philadelphia in 1752 aboard the "Snow Kitty".

     "List 189C at the court House at Philadelphia, Monday the 16th
     of October 1752 -Foreigners whose names are underwritten
     imported in the SNOW KITTY, Theophilus Barnes, Commander, from
     Rotterdam but last from Portsmouth, did on this day take the
     usual qualifications (oath) to the government".    
On this List: Johann Wihelm Stremple

1. William Strimple married, probably in Salem County New Jersey, to Christian Sax, record not found. Perhaps around 1760. Christian died after Feb 1769 and before Feb. 5, 1770, when he married Helena Shattley at Penns Neck Church. William died in 1779 as evidence of his estate. He did not leave a will and heirs and not named in the inventory unfortunately.

Children (probably more) of William and Christian are found in church records of Raccoon and Penns Neck Church and by will of Casper Sax.

     v    Christina (or Christian) born Feb 5, 1769, bapt. April
          16, 1769. 

2. John Strimple born apprx. Dec. 14, 1761. Served in the Revolutionary War as a corpral in the New Jersey Regiment. His date of appointment or enlistment was Dec 15, 1776 and location was Gloucester. Capt. James Holmes' Co., 4th Reg't of New Jersey Commanded by Clol. Ephraim Martin (also known as Capt. James Holmes' and Lieut. William Bartons Company). Possibly a shoemaker. Moved to OH, maybe with brother William. John Srimple married Mary Burton daughter of James and Hannah Burton.

3. Samuel Strimple (Middle name maybe Jesse) was born around 1787 in NJ. He married Elizabeth Biddle who was born around 1794 in Upper Penns Neck, NJ. Elizabeth's father possibly ran a ferry across the Delaware River. They moved from Batavia, Ohio to Rushville, Indiana between 1833-1837. Moved again from Rushville, Indiana to Crawford County, Flat Rock post office in Illinois between 1840- 1847. He died around 1848 in Clermont, Ohio.

4.   iii  Paul, born Mar 11, 1829 in Ohio. died June 14, 1913 in
          Kansas (84 years).
     iv   Arthur, born Apr 12, 1831 in Ohio. (Spouse: Melissa Ann
          GROVES?).
     v    William D., born  about 1833 in Ohio.
     vi   Francis L., born about 1837 in Indiana.
     vii  Henry P., born about 1847 in Illinois.
     vii  Hestia born about 1852 in Illinois.
     viii Elizabeth about 1853 in Illinois.
     ix   Angeline about 1853 in Illinois.
     x    Barthalomu about 1855 in Illinois.

4. Paul Strimple was born March 11, 1829 in Batavia, Clermont county, Ohio. At age 7 he moved to Rushville, Indiana and at age 13 to Crawford county Illinois where he grew up. In 1852 he was married to Elisa McCartney who died in 1854. They had 2 children together.

On October 29, 1861 he married Louisa Jane Bush in Lawrence county, Illinois. They had 10 children, 2 sons died in infancy. Louisa Jane Bush was born Dec 10, 1842 in Indiana. Louisa's father, Tunnis D. Bush, was born in NY and possibly fought with Harrison in the Black Hawk War, was shot through the knee and was crippled for life. Her mother, Jane Shannon (Irish), was born in Maryland.

Paul and Louisa moved to Kansas in 1870 and lived in West Rossville, Shawnee County, KS unitl 1882 where they moved to Greenwood county, KS.

Paul was licensed to preach in the Methodist church in 1860 at Wesley chapel in Lawrence county Illinios. He preached for 10 years in Illinios and another 12 in Shawnee Couty, Kansas.

Paul died of heart disaese and chronic bronchitis on June 14, 1913 at the age of 84, after taken sick on May 21., Louisa died weds March 6, 1907 at her home near Quincy, Ks. after being in poor health for a year and was buried at the cemetery east of Neal, Ks. She had a sister Anna Wesloh of Rossville, Ks living at the time.

5. Francis (Frank) Elliot Strimple was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois Dec 20, 1864. Died Oct 28, 1957, (92 yrs). Son of Paul and Louisa Strimple, came to KS in 1870 in a covered wagon. Lived in West Rossville, Shawnee County. until 1880, and then in Greenwood County. near Neale, KS.

He married (Kitty) Clara Strausbaugh on May 6, 1886 at Eureka, KS. They were living in Twin Falls, KS. Her father's name was Edwind(?) Strausbaugh, from Iowa. Clara A Strausbaugh was born in June, 1868 in Iowa She might have been adopted and her real last name might be Wollenburg or Woolenberg. Her mother was born in Vermont and her father was born in Holland.

Francis Strimple taught school in Greenwood, Ellsworth, Jackson and Shawnee Counties. He was also very active in the Methodist Church in Rossville, KS.

6. Orville Strimple was born in Greenwood County. KS, Jan. 12, 1908 and died in August 24, 1964 in Topeka, KS. He Married Mary E. Billings in 1929.
