interesting hearing from all of you. Yes pictures would be good and I think
if you click or paste in my website at the bottom of this email you will find
out what I look like now. My husband and I have three grown children(two are
physicians), 2 in Atlanta area and 1 in Hollywood , FL all married with children
giving us 5 grandchildren. My physician husband just retired a year ago, so
all this time is new to us. I have been working part time for 35 years but 13
years ago I learned the art of storytelling and have also been performing in
the south east, mostly in Miami and S.E Florida but occasionally at
storytelling festivals elsewhere, even selected to tell at the National Conference of
storytellers in 2000. I got a master's degree in 1996 in Tennessee in
storytelling and have taught at the jr. college level. My husband and I have travelled
all over the world and just returned from 10 day elderhostel hiking in the
national canyons, north rim grand canyon, bryce and zion . We had never been to
these national parks. The elevation got to me even though I am in excellent shape
with all the exercising I do. I have been the storyteller each week at the
historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and have a health club membership there
with the most gorgeous pool, biggest in continental US and I'm doing water
aerobics currently. I also play a lot of duplicate bridge and trying to mentor my
husband back into bridge.A fascinating game. I have been teaching part time
for 35 years in the afternoon and weekend schools at local Jewish temples which
is how I found storytelling and use it often in my classrooms as well as
assemblies. Cynthia, how about getting me an invitation to tell at your
international school in Rotterdam. I have frequent flyer miles, will travel. A great day
recently was visiting one day with the 6 Boone cheerleaders who have the
annual get together in New Smyrna. If I had seen them on the street I don't think
I would have recognized them. Emily and John came to my granddaughters 5th
birthday in Marietta, so Emily I had already reconnected with. I have also been
a part time artist in my earlier days and keep a lot of crafts material on
hand, did my own stain glass and quilting projects for me and my family
households. My oldest granddaughter is 16 and driving. Scary huh? Glad to see everyone
is taking an interest in keeping themselves together as much as possible. Both
brothers and lots of my family still live in Orlando so we get there a couple
of times a year.I found I am eligible with my college degree and storytelling
ability to be a national park ranger. I actually applied this year, but
didn't make the deadline, but will look into it again. By the way, I use a lot of
puppets and audience interaction with very young audiences in case you are
wondering. Click on website below. Hope to hear from more of you.Put Boone Hi in
the subject line. I don't recognize your email addresses and I get so much spam.

I'm enjoying reading all the messages that are coming in.

When my 2 children no longer needed my immediate attention as intensely as
when they were young, I started a study at a university in Amsterdam at the
Faculty of Social Science. I wanted to study intercultural communication but
the field was then not yet developed here so I had to invent my own study.
Fortunately that was possible. It meant that I had to take courses on
philosophy of science, philosophy of society, and philosophical
anthropology. It was very challenging and in retrospect satisfying. I
graduated in November 2000 with a final thesis on the subject of the
unbringing and education of children who grow up with more than one culture
in their life experiences (I call them intercultural children). As part of
the study I got involved at the American International School of Rotterdam
where I worked closely with the English as a Second Language teacher Fred
Turner.

Now I have plans to make a film with a colleague anthropologist, Rossella
Ragazzi, about Fred's work. He is coordinator of a program that attains to
create a learning environment in the classrooms which makes
it possible for the pupils to integrate their many experiences in various
languages, geographical situations, and cultures with their academic
learning. I want to make the film for use as part of a training program
for teachers who work in classrooms with intercultural pupils. At the
international school where I am involved the pupils represent 30
nationalities and many of them have complex intercultural experiences. I
hope to get started on a fund raising campagin for my project this Fall. For
this I have the support of
a project development office that is funded by the city.

Two of my interests are in methods to support people who are in processes of
change:

- the Alexander Technique (there's information on the web about the
technique if anyone is interested) Part of my study was devoted to the
theoretical foundation of this technique.

- Carnio-Sacral Therapy (also on the web, possibly under the name
Upledger)

I rent a room to teachers who teach Alexander Technique and a therapist who
works with Upledger's method and enjoy having the people come into my house.

I am also enthusiastic about the work of two people in Rotterdam with the
human voice. Their work is called Voice Work.
They work with adults and children in trainings that deepen insight into the
primal meaning of having a voice. If any one is interested in hearing more
about this I'd be glad to write you. They have a beautiful place in Turkey
where they give workshops in the summer. Most of the workshops are in
English.

I have been involved in an ecumenical Learning House for the past 12 years.
In the gatherings we learn how to study the Bible in the way of the Judaic
tradition. We have had lessons from Prof. Yehuda Aschkenasy who has taught
the Judaic tradition at a Roman Catholic Seminary for 30 years.
Yehuda is a survivor of the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland.
Since Yehuda's retirement we have Rabbi Tzvi Marx as our teacher. He grew up
in the New York area and has also lived in Israel.

Once a week I take care of my youngest granddaughter, daughter of my son Jan
Jan. She will be 4 in August. Then she starts school. My other two
granddaughters, daughters of my daughter Elizabeth live in Forest Hills, New
York.

Rotterdam is the home of Poetry International, a yearly recurring event when
poets come from all the world to meet and work with each other and to
present their poetry to the public. It's a very impressive happening. For
anyone interested, it's in June, usually in the 3rd week of June. I can put
up two people.

warm greetings to all, Cynthia

Hi y'all:
Nice to hear from all y'all. I'm "suffering" through my 10th month of
retirement -- after going to school for 30 years and working for 30 years,
it surely seems strange to wake up in the morning and not have to BE
somewhere! But, I'm getting used to it.
I'm diligently trying to improve my piano playing (unlikely) and golf (even
more unlikely) skills, as well as attention to gardening (roses and
vegetables are my responsibility), exercising (at a fitness center....gotta
get tuned up for the 50th!), reading (something other than journals --The Da
Vinci Code is very good..), micromanaging finances, and grandparenting
(daughter, Cathy, and husband live here (greater Kansas City) with two
children, 6 and 8 yrs). Youngest son Doug lives in Roswell, GA and he and
his wife own a salon in Buckhead (Michele Coulter Salon). They have a
beautiful 3 year old daughter who draws us to Atlanta once a year.
Oldest son Mike lives in LA and is still a freewheeling bachelor, and, with
a partner, composes music for commercials, etc., hoping to become
disgustingly wealthy from royalties...
My wife, Sue, still works part-time in the office (what a deal!), so we
don't plan to move anywhere -- just visit some warm places in the winter
(with golf courses).
Best wishes to everyone and hope to see you in '06!
Tom (Tommy)
PS: Thanks, Bob, for keeping us e-mailed together.

Hello Bob and to all that are tuned in. It was a pleasure seeing those that
made it to the 50th Boone/Edgewater game last fall. The pre-game Barbeque
and social was great.
Here is a brief biography of the past forty seven years for those that may
remember me. I was blessed in marriage in 1960 to a "58" Boone grad, Beverly
Jean Orr. We made Orlando our home and we raised two young men which we are
very proud of. I spent seven year's with the Martin Co., now know as
Lockheed/Martin. I happily departed, on my own in "66", to join the fun and
excitement of placing a man on the moon. I'm still at the Space Center,
employed with a family owned small business contractor. We have set a record
for duration of a contractor. We are in our twenty first year operating the
chemical analyst laboratory and component refurbishment facility..
On a sad note, I lost Beverly in Jan of 2002 to the devastating decease
known as diabetes. I'm thankful for the wonderful support I received from
friends and family. I have begun to spread my wings a little in this year of
2003 and just returned from Hawaii. Wonderful place to visit and could be a
great retirement area as long as it is not "Oahu".
My next venture will be to Costa Rica, everyone I work with claims it to has
the beauty as well as similar weather as Hawaii and only three hour flight.
I'm really trying to ease in to retirement. May be later this year.
Well, I hope to see all of you at our up coming 50th reunion.
Hope I can still dance by then.

Hi all out there in cyberspace. First of all, thanks Bob N. for the
website and getting all of this going.

Just a little about where I've been the last 45 or so years. I spent 28
years with IBM after college and graduated (retired) from there in 1992.
Our only child, Trisha, came after 18 years of marriage: 1962 to
Madeline of Lima Ohio. We spent 30 years in Poughkeepsie, NY, with IBM
and then moved in 1995 to Rome NY where we still reside.

After retirement we wanted to do volunteer work and have truly been
quite busy in that endeavor. In 1996, we were asked to go as
self-supporting volunteers to an American, English speaking, Christian
school in Penang, Malaysia, Southeast Asia. We spent 2 years there and
Trish graduated from high school there. We were back in the states
during her college years and then in April of 2002 were asked to be on
staff at a similar school in Quito, Ecuador, SA. We just returned from
there 2 1/2 weeks ago. In both schools Madeline taught elementary
classes and I worked as a computer technician. In Quito we had about
225 computers in the school of 480 students.

During our retirement years in the states, we both volunteer at a
Christian youth camp and conference center in Rome NY. And, we are
quite busy, and happily so, as our summer season opens in just 1 1/2
weeks.

Again, thanks Bob because on the website I found two "old" friends from
high school and together we went into the Marine Corps out of high
school: Jim Rogers and David Brooks, there also was Morris Ballew but
haven't found him yet. Jim and David and I correspond infrequently now
that we have found each other. Jim and I were next door neighbors thru
most of our boyhood, now on opposite coasts, NY and CA.

While I wanted to do the 40th reunion, we were preparing to leave for
Malaysia and so had to miss it. I am intending to be at the 50th.

It is good to see names and hear from so many of you all. How about
attaching digital pictures, recent ones of course. Some of us may need
high school pictures also to refresh our now feeble memories.

Hi, Bob,
Well, I retired in May of 2001, took a month-long trip to New Mexico and Arizona (and all the sights) with my daughter and two grand daughters right after I retired. Have now moved to Oviedo with one of my daughters (she's divorced) and we bought a new home together.
Planning on a trip to Dallas in October for a wedding and a trip to Key West later with my sister. Love to travel but not crazy about flying. I stayed in the DROP program for three years and it really helped toward having a nice nest egg. I thought about substituting but having too much fun right now.
I agree, we should try to keep in touch. I had lunch with Mary Purcell (Heath now) last week and she keeps in touch with Judy (used to be Wolfe). We are all going to try to meet again.
Will sign off now. Hope your trip to mts. is pleasant and you and the beagle survive. It was good to hear from you.

Your old Delaney, Cherokee, and Boone buddy, Nancy Brink Wheeler

working here I have a complimentary membership in the Wellness Center
(health club) and stay in shape there. Managed And umpired Little League for
some 30 years, and was selected to umpire in the 15 year old (Senior
Division) World Series 3 different years.

I attached a couple of snap shots,,,Now & Then......Hope to see all at the
50Th. And to you Bob thanks for the great work on the web page. We all
appreciate it. They are on the web site

You are right;;
Here's an update on myself. Went over and had coffee with John
Pinson, Karick Price a few weeks ago, it was good to see old school mates
again.. As for me, I am working part time at the USA National Training
Center here in Clermont. I also had some repair done to the body in May,
Had a stress test and found that I had some blockage, so had a heart cath
done and they put a stent in the LAD, cardiologist thinks that will take
care of it without bypass surgery, Heart is in great shape other that the
blockage. Start rehab tomorrow to get back into shape again.
See a lot names that I remember so hope to hear from some of you guys.

The rivers and rapids may be pretty strong up in White Water country with
all the rain so better use a lot of caution.

Hi, Bobby,
Like you all, Johnny and I have been busy, too. We just returned from a
fabulous trip to the Canadian Rockies w/Muffet & Don Cox and Alice & CA
Johnson. I can highly recommend the Rocky Mountain Railtours trip!!!
Johnny works one day a week as an independent contractor for his former
company. In fact, he's on his way home from AL as I write this. Keeps
him off the streets and out of trouble. We have traveled quite a bit
since his
"retirement" last year and manage to stay very active. Our health is
excellent, and we are so thankful for that.
If you go thru Atlanta, give us a call. My best to you and yours,
EL

Hey! I am busy with my DAR Chapter, and I have returned to College. I am
taking medical courses. I want to work at home doing either Medical
Transcription or Insurance and Billing. I told BellSouth I was hanging up
my boots. I have been traveling for them since I retired in '94 training.
I don't fly so I have been driving the nine states BellSouth covers. My
youngest granddaughter thinks she is Joe DiMaggio!. My daughter, Betsy
coaches her team and they finished #1 in our county and is now the coach of
the all star traveling team. My last assignment was a class in New Orleans
so I took the oldest granddaughter with me to celebrate her finishing on the
honor roll. We had a great time. She is allot of fun. The girls call me
Mimi. My son, Brett goes on the rapid runs up here. We have had mega rain
up here. All the lakes are finally full again after the drought we had last
year. I know you like living in DeLand. It had such a small town feel to
it when I lived there in '54. Have a good time on your vacation! I talked
to Pat Clark Truax a while back. We were buds in school and have stayed in
touch over the years. I am looking forward to our reunion!
Love Ya!

Hi Bob!

I wish that I'd gone a little deeper into my e-mail before responding to a couple of e-mails from classmates I hadn't heard anything about in years. I know now that you were responsible for encouraging everyone to get off "it" and start keeping in touch before it's too late. I can only say THANKS from the bottom of my heart.

I remember your telling me about your cabin in East Tenn. Where is it? You also mentioned you are going up for a visit. When? Whenever you pass through N. Georgia give me a call. If you don't bypass Atlanta and you can spare the time, How about lunch/dinner or coffee or whatever?

I will do an update on what's going on and send it to all. By the way, great pix of you and your bride, oh yeah, and the dog!

Safe travel graces for you and the family,
Ken

This from Diane Pickard Stowers

Glad to, Bob. Here is what I wrote:

I too have enjoyed the e-mails but I'm a little intimidated by the
accomplished and worldly people. I thought if I wrote, perhaps some other
"ordinary" folks would respond too.

Since college (UofF), I have stayed in Orlando. In fact, we have lived in
the same house on Delaney Park for 35 years and it is about 4 blocks from
where I grew up on Summerlin. I guess you could say I'm in a rut but I
still think this is a great place to live.

I stayed home with our 3 children, Cynthia, Jennifer & Chris until they
were grown. Then about 15 years ago the company my husband had worked for
(for 25 years) was involved in a hostile take-over and he was looking for a
new career. We learned of a small engraving/sign shop here in Orlando that
was for sale and decided to buy it. We knew nothing about making signs or
running a business but we learned fast and thoroughly enjoyed it for about
12 years. Three years ago, a buyer (and a long time friend), approached us
with an offer to buy the business. Jim was at retirement age so we agreed
to sell it and join the ranks of "retirees".

In those 3 years we have had 4 grandchildren so the timing turned out to be
perfect. Our oldest daughter, Cynthia was 39 and had been married for 19
years when she had her first baby last summer. As you can see we had been
waiting a long time. All our children and grandchildren live here in
Orlando so we get lots of babysitting opportunities.

I play tennis 2 or 3 times a week and Jim and I both volunteer at the Orange
County History Center. Those of you who live in Central Florida (or
visitors) definitely should visit the Museum. It is in the old County
Courthouse downtown and it is very well done and interesting.

I thought I might tell you about the changes around the Boone area in
Orlando. First, Boone is in the midst of major renovations. (That can make
you feel old when something you remember being new is torn down or
renovated.) There is a new administration building and the main entrance to
the campus is now on Kaley Street. Blankner Elementary that was just west
of Boone was torn down and a new building (which includes middle school) was
built on Mills just south of Boone. Now kids can go from K-12 in one
location.

The other big change is the renewal for living near downtown. My area of
Delaney Park has several new large homes and some of the old smaller homes
have been torn down to make way for new homes. This happened next door to
us where a small home was razed and now there is a 3 story house there.
This is now a trend that we aren't especially in favor of but I guess that's
progress. Also, near Lake Eola on Central and Washington streets (behind
Howard Jr. High) has become a very trendy place to live. That area is now
called Thornton Park. There are several high-rise condos and apartments
plus restaurants and shops. Many of the older homes have been remodeled and
it quite upscale.

Jim & I would like to do some traveling but my mother (who is 91) lives with
us and Jim's mother (who is 89) lives close by. Both require a lot of our
attention. It is hard to leave them alone for very long but this won't last
forever so I try to be patient.

Thanks to those of you who wrote and I hope we will hear from some more of
you.
Diane Pickard Stowers

From Cren Crenshaw

To all of wonderful friends,

Today is 6 Jun 04 representing 48 years past, that Great Graduation Day in 1956 and I just felt like sharing some thoughts with some very special people in my life.

Way back yonder, I dont think I realized there were a group of hard working people who, in coming years, would have provide glue to the past in a way that their dedication to factual and witty writing and camera skills would provide the neuron connections to so vividly remember all of my special friends.  And you know, until this year, I know I just took all of your hard work for granted, not by intent, but by omission for not telling you how much I have appreciated the Annual Staff that began their work actually in Memorial, Cherokee and then in 1952/53 until 1956.

There a lot of things I have misplaced during each of the blessed years of my life, but never have I wondered where I put my Boone Annuals.  And in those aging pages, are other bits of information I have added during the years, of special value to me - that cause mostly happy reminders of so many of you.  With sadness are reminders that not all of our graduating class will be able to gather again cause they have gone home. Guess thats the great thing about memory.  It is so uniquely ours and no one, only God, can take that away from us.

I truly am and thankful for each of you and wish I had known all of you as well as I have known some of you.  I will say that the buzzard deal, while stupid and out of the realm of good planning and execution, did give me a chance along with the other three criminals to represent you as a Brave, yet not through election.

I will always be indebted to those who have given me the chance to MC the reunions, and have the wonderful opportunity to see so many of you on a face to face basis, along with your spouse during such rapidly passing hours of each of the reunions.  My life has been enriched by those experiences.

I am so pleased to know and to be associated with such a fine group of people as the Class of 56.  I know we are instructed, with caution, about looking back;  the better objective is forward vision, and I think I have that but, all of you that walked the halls with me, prayed for the Richard Gill and his family, Butch Hartleys family, for Bob Anderson and Judy after the skeeter crash, we all prayed at our baccalaureate service when we faced our future and all of its unknowns, I just think those and all other commonly experienced situations bonded us as individuals and a class.

All in all, I know the Boone Staff were quality and they, in many instances had a handful with me, and some of you, I might add.  You know, I have a wallet size of my diploma and no recollection of ever having gotten a full size diploma.  Do you have mine?????  I do have some pictures of the event and how goofy I looked in those days.  Guess you must have not noticed all of that, thank goodness.

Im glad Mr. Rumpf(sp) was the quality person, knowing enough about music to write an Alma Mata for Boone.    Dont think you see that much any more, and I think ours was well done.

I dont know what the next years will bring but I look forward to seeing you in Orlando.

Thanks to all you local folks who keep all of us in mind and planned and are planning our next reunion.  Thanks you Bobby for keeping the web page current so I could send this note to the addressees.  And, if any are not on the address list and have not registered with Bobby, send this on to them and encourage they send a mail to him so the listing can be updated.

I regret today that until this day in 2004, I never connected the fact that we all graduated on the celebration of D Day, WW II.  I have always loved my freedom and have a keen sense of the cost of it.  Much much blood was shed, and we have been the benefactors.  I pray the blood being shed today will always be remembered and make America Great.

Before we meet in Orlando, it would be great for each of us to be able to do something great for America and well we should be able, this election year.

I pray God will bless you this year and in many to come.

I have enjoyed the visit.

Cren
