With a mage and a bard for parents, it is unsurprising that Zamia became a magic user. Her father, the dour mage Ranthar Lo'balin, taught her all he knew about magic. He loved his daughter, but that love did not make her any less vulnerable to his annoyance when she did something wrong. It was during the times when her father was brooding that she would go to her mother. Her mother, a lithe and beautiful dancer and singer named Melaril Se'rena, taught her daughter to dance, but Zamia was more dedicated to magic than music. That did not mean she learned nothing from her mother. She learned to dance and sing rather well. It was her singing that got her in trouble one day when she sang a spell that she had copied from her father's spellbooks. She knew that there would be no harm since she was not handling the components. Her father heard the words of the spell being spoken and threw a fit.
That was the day that Ranthar dragged her from the main room of their house to his study and talked to her about the dangers of miscast magic. Her also taught her about the various uses for different spells. From that day forward her days were not her own. Melaril would intervene only when she thought her husband went too far. She knew that Zamia would have to learn about magic's dangers to survive. She knew that most of this generation were leaving to find their fates outside the clan. Melaril and Ranthar were hoping to keep their daughter home a few more years before the wanderlust seized firm control of Zamia's heart.
After a few years, she did go out on her own. One day her party was asked do do a little service. They had no clue that they would be sent to another world. The world was Oerth. When they got there, they were met by a person named St. Cuthbert. He told them of the evil that was taking over an area around one of his temples, and he wanted them to take care of it. That was when she realized that, somehow, they had come to the attention of a diety of another world. Not knowing what else to do, she accepted with the rest of her party.
Her party had breached the most vile of the temples in the area. When she walked across the courtyard, she heard a shout from one of her companions. She was doused with boiling oil before she could react. Unfortunately, that caused her death.
