Artis grew up a restless child. He loved to run around the caves that he lived in. He knew that on the surface demons were destroying their world. He loved to play tricks on people, and got into trouble a lot. When he got himself lost, which was difficult, he would sing until someone heard him. It did not matter the song, but he had a voice that could draw a crowd. He learned how to manipulate their throughs and feelings with his songs. He could cool a small crowd or insite them to greater anger. He did not do the latter often.
He started adventuring underground and ended up working with a group of people who were the Chosen. They were the ones that were going to affect changes. He was one of them. The went on a quest to find a way to destroy the gate that the demons were using to come from the Abyss to their world. They were given a special box and were told to go to the surface to collect a ray of sunlight inside. They did as they were bid, avoiding demons as much as possible, fighting them when necessary. When they returned the high priest opened the box and the light spread throughout the caverns. He was touched by this light and given the power to cast spells as a mage. The light spread outward and destroyed the rift.
Shortly thereafter, the demons attacked them in their cavern homes. Artis sang to the people and gave them a boost in moral, but it was not enough. The demons broke through. In the battle his voice went silent forever.
