About a century ago, there were two villages with about two days travel between them. On this particular day, an elven man with his pregnant wife were travelling to the other village from their own. He was a jeweler, and was given commisions by their neighbors to set the jewels that they found in the hearby mountain. These neighbors just happened to be dwarves. There was, at one time friction between the villages, but as time passed, the frictions nearly vanished.
On this day, the sun was bright and the birds were singing, and the happy couple made their way to the dwarven village with the jewels set in their places. The value of the gold and silver, with the gems and other stones that were placed in them alone would bring a good proce, but the craftsmanship was supurb. The dwarves themselves could not come up with the delicate beauty of the jewelry, but they did appreciate the elf's work. He was one of the more prosperous men in the the elven village not far away.
They pulled into the center of the village, and the chief of the village came out to greet them. There were many smiles, and awed looking dwarves, when the jewelry was shone, but an odd sound from the wagon brought everyone's attention. They looked over and the elven woman was doubled over in what looked, and was in fact, pain. The elven man ran to his wife, and a few moments later a lot of dwarven women surrounded the wagon. They took her to the main hall, and closed off an area so that they would not be disturbed.
The man, distressed at the fact that he brought his wife along with him, thought to go back to his village for some priests, knowing that dwarves did not take well to magic, but was restrained. The dwarves thought it wiser that he stay here with his wife, and was assured that she would be well. "Its not like we don't have babies up here now." the chief said.
That didn't seem to calm the man, but in his distress he was not paying attention to what was in a flagon that was given to him, and he gasped at the taste, and then promptly passed out. "There, now, when the babe arrives, throw some water on him." the chief ordered the others.
He grinned and went back to his house.
It took a long time, but towards dark, a baby's cry was heard in the night. The father had revived before then, but knew that it was too late to go back to his village for the priests. He paced outside the door of the hall and waited, waited to see his first child. A dwarven woman, came out an hour later, and told him to attend his wife. Also, she told him, that his wife was not to be moved for a few days, but the birth was rather easy.
The chief heard the news of the healthy birth, though the child was a girl, and went to vist the proud parents. He beamed with pride at them.
"This is most definately a first, my friends, an elven child born in a dwarven clan. This child is special, and since she was born here, is a member of this clan. Have you chosen a name yet for the child?" he asked at the end of his small speech.
"Yes, her name is Tamdenar." the father replied.
"Good solid elven name, but she was born here, within clan holdings, so I will give her a clan name as well" he said this with just a tiny bit of steel in his voice, one that told the parents that they should accept without hesitation.
"Her name within the clan will be Amori. Henceforth, she is a member of this clan, and will have the priviledges to the clan, as well as responsibilites when she is grown." the cheif then left the hall, humming a tune to himself, leaving the parents confused and a bit worried.
After a week of being in the dwarven village the parents left, taking their daughter home with them. They worried that she would be a handful, since her first days were full of being handed from one set of rough dwarf's hands to another. They shook their heads at the memory of the pronouncement of the chief, and talked it over with him before they left. He assured them that their daughter would only have to be there for her adulthood ceremony, and a few other rites of passage, but mostly, just a few odd ceremonies, and maybe a time in the mines, a week at most.
They agreed with the chief, not wanting to cause trouble, and to keep the father's business flowing, and now the business would be nearly steady, since his daughter was now a member of the dwarves clan.
About one hunder years later...
An elven girl, about 100 years old, was dancing about the main garden with an assortment of friends. She decided that the garden was a little boring, and all of them decided to go into the woods. That proved unwise. As they entered the wood, the attack came. The girl, in the elven village known as Tamdenar, and in the dwarves village knows as Amori, ran seeing that she might just be able to get to the dwarves in time. She ran headlong into an orc camp, and saw that she was too late, the dwarves were already captured. Then, as she was trying to free them, rough hands grabbed her, and she herself was captured.
About 20 years later...
She had seen them die, almost all those from her villages, both elf and dwarf. The escape attempts failed, the abuse from the orcs in the work camps, and even worse, the tortures had killed off both peoples. Now it was down to five left, two elves and three dwarvs. She knew them all, maybe not well, but she knew them.
They were taken from their prison, awaiting another torture, and hoping that they would just die this next time. Instead, they were taken to the orc chief. He told them of their slavery, but how he needed them to go abroad to do his work. He chained them with magical necklaces, and told them to go and kill a wizard.
Over the years in the prison, she learned what she could from the dying men and women. She learned how to pick locks in theory, she even tried to use her limited skills to break out, but it never worked. She learned a lttle magic while there from a dying mage who was there only a few yeras before he died. She learned as much as she could from the dying, and from those that nearly gave up on living. She knew she might be the last person in her tribe, and she wanted revenge.
They did what they were bid by their jailors, up to a point. They got the item through, and encouintered the wizard they were to kill. Instead of killing them he freed them. The necklaces gone, they were free. They were also the last of both the elven tribe and the dwarven clan.
They travelled for a while on a road where they were waylaid by goblin bandits. The dwarves went down in short order and she was the last one standing, and fighting for her life, she fell...
She woke after a time, bewildered, and uncertain where she was. She did not know who saved her or why. She looked for her dead companions, but could not find thier bodies anywhere. She traveled alone for many weeks, before encountering a group of women, all elves except a human priestess of Tymora, and a half-elf. They took her in, and she became one of them.
She died trying to kill a half-orc, her most hated enemy.
